What to Bring With You & Preparation
What To Bring With You
First of all, you should bring training clothing. If you don’t have any of the following, you can always get it in China, probably much cheaper than you can at home:
- Running shoes
- Loose fitting pants
- If you are carrying any injuries, bring any ankle, wrist or knee support you need
- Jackets and jumpers (Tai’an doesn’t get hugely cold like the north of China but it can get cold in the winter)
- Deodorant (It can be quite hard to find in China)
Things to Buy When Your in China
It is worth noting that Washing powder, soap and toilet paper are not included in the price (this is the general standard in China), however they are cheap to buy and readily available in the nearby village/town and in the schools shop.
Think about unique things that you find back at home. China may not have them or they may not be really easy to find. There are international stores in Jinan though so you can find quite a lot of international food on weekends.
You can arrive in absolutely any physical condition and train, however, you will definitely find it easier if you have started getting yourself in shape before you come. You can actually get yourself into shape really quickly. We recommend low intensity and low impact exercise until you have built up stamina and then move into interval and high interval training. Try to workout an hour or so per day for about a month before you come and you will hit the ground running.
You will undoubtedly get a little culture shock when you first get to China so learning a little bit about the country before you come is probably a good idea. That being said, we will do our best to make sure your time in China is happy, stress free and awesome!
You are coming to learn Chinese martial arts that have been passed down through generations. Often, until recently most martial arts were passed down in secret and only to a very small number of worthy followers, so come with an open mind, show respect to everyone, including yourself as you will be taking in centuries of culture.
It can be a good idea to familiarize yourself with our training schedule so you can get an idea of daily life at the school. If you need any further information about coming to our school just get in touch.
